Ci sono almeno 3 spot da provare: Ocean Park (Isla Verde), Shacks (Arecibo), Dorado (davanti l'Hyatt Hotel). Questi spots offrono condizioni ottimali sia per slalom che per onda. Lo slalom si fa all'interno della barriera corallina e il wave all'esterno.
In queste isole le vele più usate hanno più di 6mq, ma non pensate che queste siano condizioni da lago. Nei periodi giusti (inverno) abbiamo anche venti sostenuti, senza riferimento agli uragani che qualche volta arrivano anche a questa latitudine!
I venti alisei non sono arrabbiati ed impetuosi, ma si fanno ben perdonare ed amare perché sono caldi e costanti; generalmente le raffiche non esistono, oppure sono costituite da dolci accelerazioni, che, piuttosto che abbatterti improvvisamente, ti portano a potenti e lunghissime planate.
L'acqua è spesso più calda dell'aria (25-28 °C). All'interno dei reef l'acqua è piatta, all'esterno c'è sempre onda, magari corta e frangente.
Molti spot sono dedicati al surf da onda, ma alcuni offrono eccellenti onde anche per i windsurfisti.
Alla Guadalupa andate a ST Francois dove c'è un centro windsurf (nei pressi dell'hotel Le Meridien). Alla Martinica lo spot migliore per lo slalom si trova a Cap Chevalier, in una tipica spiaggia caraibica, con vento da sinistra (left side on shore). In alternativa, a Cap Marin ho visto sfrecciare le tavole del Club Med. Per il wave vi sono varie alternative, alcune impegnative e tutte sul versante atlantico. Gli uffici turistici offrono mappe e illustrazioni di tutte le spiagge.
Ho tentato varie volte di organizzare una vacanza windsurf in Messico, ma nessuno mi ha mai referenziato uno spot. Spero che qualcuno abbia voglia di verificare questo annuncio e poi mi racconti come è andata:

There is supposedly great windsurfing there in the winter. The complex rents out equipment, and you launch 50 yards from where you sleep!

Also known as "Hurricane Gulch," Cabrillo’s geography combines a reliable thermal wind with a venturi booster from 100 foot high cliffs just upwind of the launch. The wind starts mellow in the morning and builds to 15 - 25 m.p.h. in the afternoon, 80% of the days between the months of April to October. You can get to Cabrillo Beach as late as 4:30 PM and still get in a great session, so get your obligations finished early and come on down.
